Update SD card files
EdgeTX needs multiple sd card files to work. In this step we’re going to show you how to update your RadioMaster Zorro SD card files using the EdgeTX Flasher tool.
Start by clicking on ‘ Setup SD Card ‘ in EdgeTX flasher to open the SD Card preparation tool screen.
- Start by picking your Radio Target. Since we are flashing a RadioMaster Zorro, we are picking that one.
2. Scroll a bit down and tick the checkboxes with Voicepack languages. We are using ‘ American English Female ‘.
3. Scroll down further, and pick the Lua Scripts and Tools that you want to install. Since we are using an ExpressLRS Zorro, we’re only ticking the checkbox for ‘ ExpressLRS Lua V2 ‘.
4. Disconnect your Zorro from your computer first and then turn on your Zorro. Let it boot and connect the supplied USB-C cable to the top USB-C data port of the zorro and to your computer. You will be asked to select a Mode on your Zorro’s display. Scroll to ‘ USB Storage (SD) ‘ and confirm by pressing the rollerbutton. You will hear the familiar Windows sound and see that a mass storage device gets connected.
5. In windows explorer, find the right drive letter. You are looking for ‘ USB drive ‘. Open it and check if there’s a folder structure visible that contains things like ‘ EEPROM ‘, ‘ FIRMWARE ‘, ‘ LOGS ‘, ‘ MODELS ‘ etc.
Once found, remember the Drive letter. We need this in EdgeTX Flasher.
6. Go Back to EdgeTX flasher and scroll down to ‘ Select Disk ‘ .
Click Re-Scan Disks.
Pick the drive letter you found in step 5.
Tick, if you want, ‘Erase before flash’ . !!BE SURE to pick the right drive!!
Then, click on ‘ Write to sd card ‘. Click on ‘ Continue ‘ in the ‘ Are you sure?” popup.
EdgeTX flasher will now wipe your sd card (except the MODELS and RADIO folder), download the newest EdgeTX sd card files and transfer them to your Zorro SD card. This can take a while, just be patient and let EdgeTX Flasher do it’s job.
All done! You now updated EdgeTX on your RadioMaster Zorro to the latest version!
By default, the EdgeTX Flasher sets up your transmitter as a ‘ Mode 1 ‘ transmitter. If you use a different mode, don’t forget to change it:
1) Long press ‘ SYS ‘ button
2) Go to the ‘ Radio Setup ‘ tab by pressing 2x on the ‘ Page > ‘ button
3) Scroll down to the bottom and choose your preferred Mode
3. Manually transfer firmware files, sd card files and flash from the transmitter (The way the pro does it!)
This is the way the pro’s do it. With this way of doing it, you manually download the firmware file and transfer it to your SD card. Thereafter, you can flash the newest version of EdgeTX from within EdgeTX.
Pros: Doesn’t need any drivers or software to work. Most robust way of updating EdgeTX on your RadioMaster Zorro
Cons: Your transmitter must already be running OpenTX or EdgeTX. It’s not possible to ‘un-brick’ your transmitter if the bootloader is damaged.
Download and install SD Cards files
Go to https://github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx-sdcard/releases and download the latest SD card contents zip file suitable for your transmitter. The RadioMaster Zorro uses the ‘ taranis-x7.zip ‘ binary.
Connect your RadioMaster Zorro in ‘ USB Storage (SD) ‘ mode to your computer by powering on your RadioMaster Zorro and connecting a USB-C cable to the top USB-C Data port. When prompted to ‘ select mode ‘, scroll to ‘ USB Storage (SD) ‘ and enter. If all went well, your RadioMaster Zorro is now connected to your computer.
Open your file explorer and navigate to the newly appeared ‘ USB drive ‘. This drive should contain folders like ‘ EEPROM ‘ , ‘ FIRMWARE ‘ , ‘ MODELS ‘ , ‘ RADIO ‘ , etc.
Backup all files to a safe location in case you want to backup.
Now delete all files from your SD card (or format as FAT32) and copy the contents of the previously downloaded ‘ taranis-x7.zip ‘ file to your blank SD card. If all files finished transferring, you can copy the MODELS and RADIO folders from your backup to the SD card. This way EdgeTX will import your old models and settings on the first boot. You can also copy your SOUNDS folder or download the newest one in the next step.
If you didn’t copy your SOUNDS folder to the SD card and want to use the newest sounds, go to https://github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx-sdcard-sounds/releases and downoad your preferred language.
After downloading, copy the contents SOUNDS folder in the zip file to your SD card
Download and flash (update) EdgeTX on your RadioMaster Zorro
Go to https://github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx/releases/latest and download the latest release zip file.
Open the downloaded zip file (edgetx-firmware-vx.x.x.zip) and search for the file zorro-*.bin . Transfer this file to FIRMWARE folder on your sd card.
Disconnect your Zorro from your computer.
Long press the ‘ SYS ‘ button and navigate to the ‘ SD CARD ‘ tab by once pressing ‘ Page > ‘.
Scroll to the ‘ [FIRMWARE]’ folder and enter it by pressing the roller button.
Scroll to the zorro-*.bin file you previously transfered to this folder and long press the roller button. Now select ‘ Flash bootloader ‘ by using the roller button. EdgeTX bootloader will now be installed.
Exit back to the main screen of the RadioMaster Zorro by pressing ‘ ok ‘ and ‘ Rtn ‘ and turn off your radio.
Boot your RadioMaster Zorro in Bootloader mode by pressing both trimbuttons next to the powerbutton inwards (to the power button) while once pressing the powerbutton. Your zorro wil now enter bootloader mode
Select option ‘ Write firmware ‘ and scroll to the zorro-*.bin file you previously transferred to your sd card. Press the roller button to confirm.
Long press ‘ [ENT] ‘ (the rollerbutton) to start updating EdgeTX. The bootloader will now start to update EdgeTX on your RadioMaster Zorro.
Once you see the message ‘ writing complete ‘, press enter to go back to the main menu.
Scroll to Exit en Enter to restart the RadioMaster Zorro.
You are now finished updating EdgeTX on the RadioMaster Zorro!
If you did not add the RADIO and MODELS folders to your SD card for conversion, when the radio starts with EdgeTX for the first time, you will get a STORAGE WARNING – Bad Radio Data-. Press the white circle or roller to bypass the warning. Then you will get another STORAGE WARNING – Storage Preparation. Press the white circle or roller again. Once the SD card is prepared, the calibration screen will appear. Calibrate your radio.
If you did add the RADIO and MODELS folders to your SD card for conversion you should see a message telling you that a SD conversion is necessary. Select the white circle and it will begin converting your models. Depending on your previous radio settings the calibration screen may appear, If so, Calibrate your radio.
Hi,
So I tried this with the buddy website and now my radio does not switch on , what is funny is that the top usb port does not do anything. When i put it in the lower port it starts to charge the radio and i hear the connection on my pc but nothing happens. Any help would be appreciated.
Hello Euwan,
Seems like something during flashing your zorro did go wrong. Please try to flash your zorro in DFU mode to see if that works. If that doesn’t work, try this: https://github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx/wiki/Unbrick-your-radio
Hello,
I have a couple of problems and I would like your help:
1) When I try to access USB drive to see the folder structure (that contains things like ‘ EEPROM ‘, ‘ FIRMWARE ‘, ‘ LOGS ‘, ‘ MODELS ‘ etc.) I just cannot, there is a message: “Please insert a disk into USB drive”, why is this happening? and how can I solve this problem?
2) This is maybe caused by the previous problem, when I try to turn on my radio, is just not turning on, the loading bar goes to the oposite way and appears the sleeping face, to try to turn on, I click on SYS button then power button at the same time and sometimes works but sometimes not, why is this problem happening? how can I solve it?
3) Also, I noticed my configurations are not being saved (like model configurations and system configurations) when I finally can turn it on, I found all my configurations are gone.
I did upgrade the firmware to the 2.8.0 version (after this, this problem happened), and I have a radiomaster ZORRO.
Hi Geovani,
This sounds like a faulty sd card. Did you try to use a other sd card? Did this solve your issue?

I used EdgeTX Buddy and successfully updated the firmware on my Zorro, but the SD card failed. Am I at risk of bricking my TX? Why does the SD card need to be setup in the first place?
Hi Colin,
You don’t risk bricking your tx when an update of the sd card fails. For some reason EdgeTX buddy doesn’t always work well when you want to update the sd card. Best is to manually update the sd card by downloading the sd card contents at https://github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx-sdcard .

Hi. After upgrading EdgeTX to version 2.8.2, I had a problem with zorro. I connect the controller to my computer (Mac) to update the SD CARD, but as soon as I start copying, the controller shuts down. I tried different firmware versions but the problem persists. I can’t install anything to the SD Card through the controller. What does it mean? Thanks
Sounds like an empty battery. Please fully charge your batteries or replace them.
bonjour.
est ilpossible de remplacer le message a la mise en marche de la zorro?
merci
Salut Guillaume,
Tu peux! Vous pouvez définir un écran de démarrage personnalisé pour le Zorro dans EdgeTX Companion 🙂

If I use the pros’ method 3, everything is copy/paste, so the dfu drivers are not needed at all, right?
Hi Vasco,
You are totally right!

I bought second hand zorro multi with external happymodel 24 elrs. Because i have quadcopter with v3 elrs, i install v3 elrs in happymodel. Everything seems work very well, my zorro can connect to my drone and control it. But, when i enter expreslrs menu in my zorro, i only see two menu. 1, other device, and 2 is exit. Its strange
My question, should i update my zoro firmware?. And what firmware i should use for update?( when i check my zorro, it display edgetx zorro)
Thanks
Thank you
It’s best to update to the latest version of EdgeTX, ExpressLRS and the ExpressLRS lua scripts.
If you don’t want to update to the latest version of EdgeTX for some reason, only update to the latst ExpressLRS firmware and latest ExpressLRS LUA scripts.
